The Sidekick Slide has been pulled from T-Mobiles lineup. The recently reported battery problem is the reason for the removal. It’s a good move by T-Mobile. It’s better than selling more of the defective items. User who are experiencing problem with the Slide may be able to get a free upgrade to the LX!
Here is a copy of the official statement:
“T-Mobile USA suspended sales of the T-Mobile Sidekick Slide™ on Friday evening, Nov. 16, after Motorola – the manufacturer of the device – confirmed that some devices may inadvertently power off when the slide door on the front side of the phone is opened or closed.
T-Mobile has taken this action to help ensure our customers only receive devices we’re confident will perform at their peak, so they can stay effortlessly connected to those who matter most.
Motorola is currently working to identify the root cause of the power cycle issue in affected Sidekick Slide devices. The T-Mobile Sidekick LX™ and Sidekick iD™ are not affected by this issue.
If a customer purchased a Sidekick Slide that is experiencing the unintended power cycle issue, they may contact T-Mobile Customer Care, or go to a T-Mobile retail store, for assistance and to discuss available options.”
So I read over at BGR about battery issues with the Sidekick Slide and to a lesser extent the Sidekick LX. The Sidekick Slide is hard reseting when you slide the screen up of flick the side really hard.
One way to fix that problem is to take a small piece of paper and wedge it between the wall and the battery. This has worked for multiple people. So if you are having this issue give it a try!
This may also help with the Sidekick LX reset issue as well.
I am pleased to introduce the new Sidekick Skins Store. It is located at shop.sidekickskin.net. Click here to access it!

Didn’t like the Sidekick LX? Your sidekick III getting a little long in the tooth? Here is what you have been waiting for! The Sidekick Slide. It’s being positioned at the middle price point of sidekicks. 199 dollar for a 2 year agreement. THat puts the Sidekick ID at the bottom for 99 dollars and the Sidekick LX at 299 dollars at the high end.
This model of the Sidekick puts much of its emphasis on email and instant messaging at the expense of multimedia functions.
This is the first model in this series to be designed by Motorola, who took some of the expertise that went into the RAZR and designed a device smaller than its predecessors: 4.6 in. by 2.4 in. by 0.7 in. and 5.3 ounces.
The name comes from the QVGA screen, which slides up and down over the QWERTY keyboard, rather than swivel around as displays on other Sidekicks do.
Inside, the Slide has most of the standard set of features for this line, including a web browser, email app, IM chat program, and more. While this device will have an audio player, T-Mobile warns that extended use of this this will drain the battery very quickly. When not playing music, its 1130 mAh battery is good for up to 5 hours of talk time or 3 days of standby time.
In addition, this smartphone includes a microSD memory card slot, a 1.3 MP camera, and Bluetooth.
The slide looks pretty nice.
And here is the LX
